My Life, My Family, My World

Over half a million children aged 5 to 19 years, in 40 countries have taken part in the SchoolNet Global curriculum projects. Together they are building the world's biggest resource created by children for children - a treasure chest of 58,000 unique and individual web pages about their lives, their families, communities and environment - all written by children for children.
“Involving children in SchoolNet Global is the easiest and most effective way to bring an international dimension into the classroom - to promote intercultural understanding, collaboration and individual creativity. I use it in almost every area of the curriculum.” - Colette Cotton, ICT Coordinator, St Mary’s Primary School, Folkestone

“This remarkable educational project is not only bringing children together from across the world, but is also getting them to engage.” - George Cole, The Guardian

How it Works
All teachers and children can freely use the huge resource of children’s pages. You can browse the NEW! Directory or search on almost any subject under the sun and find out what children around the world think - an inspirational start for any class topic. Pupils of registered Primary and Secondary teachers can join in projects such as Early Childhood Memories, My Culture, International Children’s News or My Environment and contribute their own pages to this amazing resource. You can also take part in coordinated international collaborative projects like the NEW! Spirit of the Trees 2012 Olympic year project.
Teacher Support
Registered teachers get comprehensive guidance on how to integrate the project into the curriculum, Download the Curriculum Guides, Lesson Plans and How-To-Do-It sheets for pupils -everything you need to get the children started. Look out for the NEW! Global Learning Resources, developed to help you win your British Council International Schools Award. What your children learn Children learn to understand people of different backgrounds and cultures - whether they live around the corner or around the world. They learn about global issues. They learn how to research and safely present their ideas to an international Web audience.

Creativity and Self Esteem
An independent evaluation by Lancaster University reported that SchoolNet Global members generate highly creative work. Pupils publish poems, artwork, news & views and reports - related to all areas of the curriculum. Research also shows SchoolNet Global extends children’s ICT skills and provides motivating opportunities for purposeful writing. Publishing for a global audience increases children’s self esteem.

The 5 Steps to Cyberspace
Children get templates to guide their research and optimise creativity and productivity. They develop skills in critical thinking, organisation, interpretation and communication, through the ‘5 Steps to Cyberspace’ process.

Safety first
As with all Intuitive Media projects, the children’s safety comes first. SchoolNet Global is a safe place for children to work online. Children have their own protected areas where they can create and refine their web pages. They submit their finished pages to their teachers, and then they go to professional mediators who check their work is safe before they publish it to the world.
